1.0 ABSTRACT
Dictionary is the reference
used to find the meaning of word for different language. At University Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM)
for instance, dictionary is the important resource used by students who are
taking International language subject.
One of the International language subject taught is Mandarin
Language. However, using static Mandarin
dictionary as reference may lead to misunderstanding. Therefore, a Mobile
Digital Mandarin Language was developed to help students to learn Mandarin
Language through an interactive medium.
The application has been developed using Adobe Flash CS4 with Flash Lite
3.0 supported platform. Action Script
was used as the scripting language. The
ADDIE model has been adapted for the application’s development. From the evaluation result, this application
could facilitate new students who are taking UWB 10902 subject in UTHM to learn
the Mandarin Language easily and everywhere through mobile phone access.
2.0 INTRODUCTION
Mobile Digital
Mandarin Language is an alternatif in learning Mandarin language by accessing
the mobile phone. The dictionary can help consumer to find the meaning
especially the new students who took the Mandarin language. Therefore, this
application provides two search method. The first search method is translation
platform and the second search method is picture dictionary. The picture
dictionary incorporate the multimedia elements such as audio, image and
animation to give a positive impact in the dictionary application The
development of dictionary based on a Mandarin
Language UMB 10902 Teaching Module . The picture dictionary was developed from
Mandarin to English and Malay. While, translation platform involves three
language by four method. The methods are from Mandarin to Malay, from Mandarin
to English, from Malay to Mandarin and from English to Mandarin.The module is
writen by Lim Hong Swan dan Yeoh Li Cheng, lecturer of Mandarin subject at
Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM).
3.0 OBJECTIVE
3.1 To
develop the dictionary with provide two searching method to find the meaning
by
search and by index.
3.2 To
provide multimedia element such as image, audio and animation for picture dictionary part.
